Belgium offshore wind farms

Belgium has 878 MW of offshore capacity, which generates 3.2 TWh annually. Whereas a land-based turbine generates on average 1.88 GWh per MW of capacity, an offshore turbine can generate 3.67 GWh per MW. This gives offshore a capacity factor of 41.9% compared to onshore’s 21.4%.

The wind farms already operational in Belgian waters are:

C-Power: 326 MW, 54 turbines (average 6.0 MW each) 2013

Northwind: 216 MW, 72 turbines (average 3.0 MW each) 2014

Belwind: 171 MW, 66 turbines (average 2.6 MW each) 2010

Nobelwind: 165 MW, 50 turbines (average 3.3 MW each) 2017

Total: 878 MW, 242 turbines (average 3.6 MW each)

The wind farms under construction or in planning are:

Norther: 370 MW, 44 turbines (average 8.4 MW each). Will be commissioned in 2019

Rentel: 288-312 MW, 48 turbines (6.0-6.5 MW each). In planning for 2018

Seastar: 246 MW, 41 turbines (average 6.0 MW each). In planning for 2018

Mermaid: 232-266 MW, 27-41 turbines (6.5-8.5 MW each). In planning for 2018

Northwester 2: 217-224 MW, 22-32 turbines (8.0-10 MW each). In planning for 2018

Total: 1353-1418 MW, 182-206 turbines (6.9-7.4 MW each)
