Corporate commitments to clean energy

In 2019, more than 170 large companies, members of RE100, have made public pledges to 100% renewable energy. 37 of these are already at 95%. Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s) are the main mechanism used.

IRENA calculates there are over 10 million people employed in the global renewable energy sector. RE100 members are investing over $94 bn (Bloomberg NEF), and by 2030 they will purchase an additional 197 TWh of renewable energy from 100GW of renewable plants, costing $90bn over the 2020s.

Unilever has made a commitment to source 100% of its grid electricity from renewable sources by 2020, and all energy by 2030.

Ikea has a commitment to producing as much renewable energy as it consumes by 2020. Globally it has invest &Euro;1.5bn into renewable generation projects, and owns and operates oer 400 wind turbines, installed 900,000 solar panels on it stores and distribution centres. It sells turnkey solar systems to its customers.
